DSArt
I'll let DS Art talk for himself, he's awesome & writes like a poet...
The life of a stencil artists is one of contradiction. The act of spray painting is immediate and chaotic; yet the stencil is created painstakingly & with absolute precision. The boundless & wildart of the can is tamed, controlled & brought to solid form by the template, surgically hand-carved. The details & care that goes into creating the stencil is artisanal, commited, focussed; yet the completed stencil can bear the fruit of countless reproductions all executed within seconds. A stencil artist seeks not necessarily to create but to recreate. To relocate. From the impermanent recesses of the creative mind to the authority & permanence of the stencil.
Studying fine art at university, I was fascinated by miniature design, Japanese animation & propaganda posters. It was while living in East London during the early 2000s that I became intoxicated by a graffiti movement that was coming of age. One couldn't help but notice the colour & imagery that soaked the otherwise drab grey walls of Dalston & Shoreditch. For me & my brother, trying to find the latest D-face,Flying Fortress, Obey or London Police to name a few, was like a city-wide treasure hunt. This city was Banksy's Hollywood, his reputation blew up in London; and so too did the grafters & the artists of the shadows as they stepped into the light of the gallery. But thus wasn't just a time for the commercialization of graffiti. It was the playground of the one-off creative & the political activist; the walls were speaking, screaming & I was all ears. DS Art was the love child of this movement.
'David's work takes the art of stencil-work to levels of exceptional detail. Multiple layers create imagery beyond the monochrmatic designs that adorn the walls of our streets; instead we are presented with depth, colour & detail that is complex, tactile & mentally engaging. Themes of violence & fragility are underscored by the playful & outright stupid - all dressed in the robes of rich colour & form' Andres Olow Clase, Orion Contemporary

Soho House Showcase (Recap) 27 February, 2010
On Wednesday, a few of London’s independent brands got together to put on a one off showcase event in the basement of Soho House. The Ugly Kids Club, Smut Clothing, LouLou Bontemps and more, set up to display and sell their work. We were invited down to check it all out and pickup a few items for ourselves.
The Ugly Kids Club had a bunch of new prints on sale, including the new ‘Ladder of Success’ print and some majorly limited photographic tees. Artwork by the UKC’s own Mister Batlow was on display throughout the basement, andwe also got a peak at an ill new Mister Cee design coming this summer,so keep an eye out for that in the photos.
Smut Clothing were there with their new tee, featuring super fit model Vikki Blows, and a bunch of other crazy items including digital printed pillows and custom lamps. More info on these special itemscoming soon, but for now you can check out more at the Smut website. Lou Lou Bontemps was also displaying her stock, including a line of custom cut and painted leather accessories, hand sprayed by Mister Batlow. Check the photos below to see the line – look out for the Union Jack painted laptop sleeves, my personal favourite.
It’s always great to see UK independents getting together to put on events like this and help each other out – this event was no exception.Check out the brands above and have a look below to see how it went down.

Thank you Adam x

Thank you Jemelyn xxx
Made in Loulouland by Jem @ Bait Magazine
I met the lovely Loulou Bontemps at an exciting showcase event in Soho House on Wednesday night. Loulou joined forces with fellow London designers MYSMUT and The Ugly Kids Club to show-off their new releases and to of course share some bubbly.
Before entering the scene, Loulou was unknown to me until all things bright and beautiful from her side of the room grabbed my attention and showed that this designer is big in the game herself. Loulou showcased her gorgeous collection of vintage-inspired, leather clutches each handmade by her.
Textured leathers mixed with vintage fabrics or satin dominate the collection giving the bags a luxurious and time-less style. Over-sizedbows and contrasting gun metal spikes are also key to the exclusive collection. The spikes update and harden the look, a look which I’m sure Rihanna would approve of. Each clutch is finished off with a touch of embellishment or a handpicked antique trinket.
My favourite bag from her collection had to be the Batlow Clutch. Loulou collaborated with Mr. Batlow from UKC and the results were dope! Batlow gave Loulou’s clutches some much needed patriotic and neon-coloured spray paint in true UKC style and creates a master piece(a few of them actually). These customized chocolate brown clutches have the power to liven up any outfit.
Loulou doesn’t stop at handmade bags. She also buys vintage jewelry and customizes them to create real one-off pieces. She also promotes impressive pieces made by undiscovered designers who I believe are the real hidden gems.
I saw this statement piece by Gemma Dane at the showcase event and couldn’t keep my eyes off it. It’s original. It’s gorgeous. It’s beautiful. I bought it. Done.
